Internet of Things industry veteran Joonho Park takes on the role of Executive Director for OCF to lead the mission of full device interoperability
Beaverton, Oregon. January 24, 2017 – The Open Connectivity Foundation (OCF), a leading Internet of Things (IoT) standards body, announced the appointment of Joonho Park as Executive Director of OCF for the consortium. In his new role, Dr. Park will foster OCF strategic initiatives and aid execution, chair the Operational Management Steering Committee, maintain OCF policies and procedures and provide clear communication in an effort to build cross-organizational consensus.
“The Open Connectivity Foundation and its members are working to defragment the market to ensure our future entails a world where all devices, despite vendor, can communicate with one another,” says Dr. Park. “I have been dedicated to IoT standards for more than a decade, and have been impressed with the progress OCF has made. I am looking forward to continuing our work around interoperability and to really start showcasing the full potential of IoT.”
Dr. Park joins OCF from Samsung Electronics where he spent the last thirteen years. He had served as head of standard and technology enabling. In this role, he headed the Samsung-wide IoT Task Force to globalize Samsung’s IoT business. He lead the standardization of the “Service Delivery Platform” for all Samsung products, and standardized connectivity among Samsung Smartphones, Tablets, TVs, and all other displays.
During his time at Samsung he was also head of global sales and marketing team for the Networks Business. Prior to that, Dr. Park held R&D roles at Bell Labs of Lucent Technologies, Bell Communications Research and IBM. He is also a professor at the Postech Department of Electrical Engineering, where he teaches “IoT Technologies” and “Founding IoT Ventures.”
