Open Connectivity Foundation (OCF) honors member companies and other exemplary individuals contributing to its mission of ensuring secure interoperability for consumers, businesses and industries
New Orleans, Louisiana – June 17, 2019 – The Open Connectivity Foundation (OCF), a leading Internet of Things (IoT) standards body, today announced the winners of its annual Outstanding Contributor Awards. These awards highlight OCF’s member companies as well as individuals who have made exemplary contributions to OCF and its work toward advancing IoT standardization.
“The Open Connectivity Foundation had another busy year,” said John Park, Executive Director of the Open Connectivity Foundation. “We finished OCF 2.0 specifications, successfully ratified our specifications as ISO/IEC standards, stood up the OCF PKI, and held the Multi-Vendor Interop Event, in addition to getting certification ready. All these achievements were made possible by our members who are dedicated and committed to the success of OCF. We are extremely lucky to have all these talented members.”

Below is the list of companies and individuals recognized by the OCF Outstanding Contributor Awards:
Member Companies:
- CableLabs –CableLabs was one of the first companies to join OIC and has served on the board of directors since UPnP was integrated. CableLabs most significant contribution has been in the area of security. Additionally, CableLabs was critical in designing and selecting vendors for a state-of-the-art PKI infrastructure.
- Intel –Intel is an active member and contributes across numerous working groups and task groups within the Open Connectivity Foundation (OCF). Intel has made large contributions to the OCF in areas of Architecture, Security, Open Source, and Certification. Since the inception of OCF, Intel has proactively introduced many best practices to enable OCF’s ecosystem.
- LG Electronics –LG Electronics actively participates in OCF member meetings, conference calls, and Plugfests and contributes to OCF specifications and the OCF certification program. LG Electronics also contributed source code and an IoTivity OS Maintainer.
- Samsung Electronics –Samsung has made large contributions to OCF in the areas of Core Technology, Security, Cloud, Developer Program, and Bridging.
Individuals:
- Alex Wight – Alex was very involved with the selection of OCF’s Maintenance, Certificate and Registration Authorities. As a Security subject matter expert, Alex volunteered to serve on the OCF PKI Management Team supporting OCF operations and the Certification Work Group chair. His involvement in the OCF PKI Evaluation Committee, as well as, his current support within the PKI Management Team have been instrumental in enabling the OCF PKI infrastructure.
- Betty Zhao – Betty led the efforts to create the newly established OCF China Forum. She also led the regional activities and organized the regional OCF developers program in China which helped to encourage Chinese SME companies be interested in the OCF development. She also participated in the BEG TF and provided a input as a major Home Appliance Manufacturer.
- Clarke Stevens – Clarke was nominated for his outstanding contributions in setting up developer events and the supporting tooling. Clarke leads the Tool Task group, and due to his leadership this group delivered substantial tooling to simplify how to get started with IoTivity and IoTivity-Lite. This getting started guide has now been successfully used in OCF developer events on 3 continents.
- David Kaufman – Currently serving as one of the Vice-Chairs of the CWG, David was the developer of the OCF Dashboard. The CWG Dashboard is the De-Facto tool used today prioritizing the development and validation of the Certification Program Test Cases. David also conducts a quarterly analysis of our OCF Test Cases Development. As a CWG representative in the Strategy WG, David assists with driving and providing insightful guidance for OCF’s Cloud Strategy.
- Dongjoo Kim – Dongjoo was recognized as an outstanding contributor for his eagerness and hard work to make OCF technology more usable and improve its user experience. He has also contributed to the development of the OCF Cloud Open API, and helped develop solutions for the multiple onboarding tool issue by working with the BEG TF, Strategy WG, and Security WG.
- Ed Agis –Ed was nominated for his outstanding contributions to the certification program as Chair of the CWG. He ensure all new OCF features are covered by the certification program. Ed contributes in a number of areas that support OCF Certification, Test tool development and support and enhancements to improving OCF security consisting of process improvements to OCF Certification Program and oversight of PKI infrastructure support.
- Jeremy Rover – Jeremy serves as the Data Model Work Group Chair and Vice-Chair of the Core Technology Work Group. Working with members of the Security Working Group, Jeremy led the drafting and submission of several CRs related to the Security Profiles that are part of our certification testing program. Jeremy is a solid team player supporting our WG chairs and has made contributions in all three WGs: CTWG, CWG and SWG working groups which are essential towards the development of the OCF Certification Program Requirements.
- Jihye Lee – As a CWG Vice-Chair, Jihye represents the CWG in the Business Enabling Group Task Force. Working closely with the chair of the BEG TF, she has played an instrumental part in driving the needed deliverables for the CWG to implement the upcoming Multi-Vendor Interop Events. Jihye also assisted the Tools TG in developing the framework for enabling the use of development boards by members. Jihye is an active contributor in OCF and is overseeing the collaboration and coordination of deliverables for development of a C2C solution.
- Joo-Chul Kevin Lee – As Chair of the Bridging Task Group, Joo-Chul has been central to realizing one of OCF’s highest priorities: bridging between OCF and other ecosystems. Joo-Chul coordinated the development of specifications for bridging to Bluetooth, Haier U+, oneM2M, Zigbee and Z-Wave ecosystems. In addition to his generous leadership coordinating input from these Bridging Projects, Joo-Chul worked closely with SRTG and RBSTG to ensure security aspects were addressed.
- Kishen Maloor – Kishen was recognized as an outstanding contributor because of his contributions in writing a majority of IoTivity-Lite. OCF recently decided to support IoTivity-Lite as the CTT qualifying open source implementation over IoTivity because it was written better, had fewer bugs and took up less space on devices. Kishen is also active in several OCF technical groups and influences OCF design.
- Mark Trayer – Mark chairs the Core Technology Work Group and oversees deliverables from the Task Groups under CTWG. He leads by example taking on deliverables he is solely tasked by the group along with coaching and assisting the other engineers working in the work group. Mark is a role model for chairing a Work Group and effectively manages a team of engineers to deliver prioritized deliverables in support of OCF’s core requirements.
- Nathan Heldt-Sheller – Nathan’s contributions have been critical in re-establishing how OCF handles IoTivity and ensuring the open source code is three pillar aligned. Nathan serves as Open Source WG Chair and is handling/controlling IoTivity and IoTivity-Lite. The three pillar alignment process and releasing software now has a reduced complexity due to his efforts.
- Richard Bardini – Richard was nominated for his outstanding contributions as Chair of the Architecture TG and for his work on the specifications. The Architecture TG delivers most of the technical constructs of OCF. His contributions and guidance in turning the OCF specifications into ISO/IEC formatted specifications should be recognized as the reformatting would not have happened without his assistance.
- Wouter van der Beek – Wouter was nominated not only for his leadership of the Technology Steering Committee, but also for his contributions and commitment to OCF. Wouter has drafted and submitted joint as well as individual contributions for Swagger 2.0 translation, development of the Device Spy Tool, Certification for Platform Testing, and Contributions on Device Management Test Cases. He has played an instrumental role as OCF improves its effectiveness with driving three pillar alignment across the OCF Work Groups.
