By Bruno Johnson, CEO of Cascoda and Marketing Communications Work Group Chair at OCF
Cascoda and OCF are proud to announce this week that OCF member Cascoda’s Chili2 OCF-over-Thread solution passed IASME gold-level certification for the IoT Security Assured scheme. The Chili2 module will be the first product utilizing OCF technology to feature an IASME gold certification badge, and represents a crucial step in validating OCF security on a global scale.
Realizing the many benefits of OCF’s Secure IP Device Framework, Cascoda implemented OCF-over-Thread technology on its Chili2 module to simplify the development of secure IoT products. First announced in November 2019, the Chili2 module offers built-in interoperability and security features for both smart home and commercial building applications.
Recently promoted by the by the UK department of Department for Digital, Culture, Media & Sport, the IoT Security Assured scheme works to certify internet-connected devices against security standards, demonstrating device compliance with best-practice security. The scheme offers a comprehensive set of security benchmarks, and is mapped to the IoTSF Security Compliance Framework.
This represents a new milestone for OCF security, which maps to an array of industry security baselines and now includes the IASME IoT Security Assured scheme on its list. The IASME gold-level certification of Cascoda’s OCF-over-Thread solution verifies OCF’s adherence to key European IoT security guidelines. This is a big step forward in OCF’s global cybersecurity efforts and provides increased confidence in OCF security to manufacturers and end users in the UK and beyond.
Cascoda was chosen by IASME to be part of the initial cohort of participants on the IoT Security Assured scheme. To receive certification, our team was required to provide information regarding the security controls in place on the connected device and all associated services, including the OCF application layer. This information was reviewed and confirmed by trained IoT assessors at IASME. After a seamless process, the Chili2 OCF-over-Thread solution successfully passed IASME’s highest level of security, being awarded with gold-level certification. This level guarantees alignment with the ETSI mandatory requirements as well as all the additional ETSI recommended requirements and data protection provisions.
As a champion of OCF technology, Cascoda looks forward to further implementing OCF’s Secure IP Device Framework in future products.
