The Open Connectivity Foundation (OCF) is excited to announce the addition of the OCF India Forum to the OCF community. The OCF India Forum is the newest regional effort, following the OCF Korea Forum and the OCF China Forum.
The number of connected devices in India is increasing exponentially with demand generating from both Consumer and Industrial applications. Nasscom predicts that there will be 2.7 billion connected devices by 2020, leading to an economic impact of up-to $15B USD. However, more than half of this market growth is locked by the lack of interoperability standards. The OCF India Forum was recently formed with a vision to solve this interoperability problem, and to promote the Open Connectivity Foundation in India and its approach to enabling an interoperable, scalable, reliable and secure Internet of Things (IoT). The OCF India Forum currently boasts 35+ members from a range of companies including Intel India, L&T Technology Services, Nasscom CoE IoT and Samsung R&D India Bengaluru.
Goals and Promotion
As the IoT ecosystem in India is growing fast, the goal of this forum is to create awareness about the OCF IoT standard in India through focused ecosystem engagement and promotion of the OCF to educate and offer support to IoT-focused Indian companies in adopting the benefits of standardization.
The Forum will also participate in local Standards Working Groups, including the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) and the Telecommunications Standards Development Society, India (TSDSI) in order to promote OCF adoption in government projects.
By promoting the OCF as the dominant IoT standard that benefits the larger IoT community, the OCF India Forum will work towards enabling Indian companies to bring more OCF interoperable devices to the market.
Education
The OCF India Forum will work to educate and extend support to Indian companies regarding OCF testing and certification. The Forum also plans to engage and motivate Indian Universities for active contribution to Open-Source and Standards and for OCF-related skill development.
The OCF is happy to have the support of the India Forum and its members and leaders. Dr. Aloknath De, CTO of Samsung R&D India, has been named the India Forum Chair and will be working closely with Sudhanshu Mittal, Director of Nasscom CoE IoT and President of OCF India in bringing these goals to life. Nasscom CoE IoT will serve as the Executive Office of OCF India Forum and will help engage with the Indian IoT ecosystem including government bodies and startups.
The OCF India Forum invites OCF members to the upcoming OCF India Seminar on IoT Standards and Connectivity at the Nasscom CoE IoT Office in Bengaluru, India on May 9.
